Measure the tiled surface, not just the waterline
Pool retiling cost in Valencia depends on more than the pool’s length and width. The tiled area includes the floor, walls, steps and other submerged features. Depth changes, curved walls, benches and awkward corners affect both material quantities and installation time. Two pools with similar water surface areas can therefore need quite different amounts of work.
Give your contractor the approximate length, width and depth range, plus photographs of steps and any damaged areas. Mention whether tiles are loose, grout is missing or the water level drops unexpectedly. Photographs help with an initial discussion, but a site inspection is important. Some defects only become visible after draining or stripping, so the quote should explain how those discoveries will be assessed and approved.
Choose tiles for the whole pool system
Glass mosaic, often called gresite in Spain, is popular because small pieces suit curves and detailed shapes. Pool-rated porcelain can create a different finish, but larger formats may require more careful setting out and cutting around steps, slopes and fittings. Neither option should be chosen on appearance alone. Confirm that the selected product is suitable for its exact underwater or poolside use.
Tile choice affects preparation, adhesive, grout, cutting and waste. Ask to see a sample and check how the finish will look under water. Steps and access points also need an appropriate slip-resistant specification. The quote should describe a compatible installation system, not simply name a tile. Discuss joints and movement details as well, because attractive tiles cannot compensate for unsuitable materials underneath.
Investigate the render and waterproofing underneath
The condition of the base is often the biggest uncertainty. Loose tiles may reveal weak render, hollow areas or an unsuitable previous repair. Cracks need assessment before they are covered. If you suspect a leak, explain when it happens and how the water level behaves; pipework, fittings and the pool shell may need investigating separately.
Tiles and grout are not a substitute for a sound waterproofing system. Ask what removal, surface repairs and waterproofing preparation are included. A contractor may need to inspect the exposed substrate before confirming the full repair scope. Agree a written process for additional work rather than assuming every hidden defect is covered by the original total. Necessary drying and curing periods must also be allowed for before filling the pool.
Include coping, surrounds, access and water handling
The pool edge deserves attention while the main work is being planned. Damaged coping, loose surround paving or deteriorated brickwork can leave an otherwise refreshed pool unfinished. Ask whether edge repairs, joints and disturbed paving are included or quoted separately. Check whether any skimmers, lights or other fittings need attention, rather than discovering this after the tiling has started.
Access also affects the practical workload. Steps, narrow gates and a long route from the street influence how materials and rubble are moved. Draining and refilling need a clear plan, with local water restrictions and disposal requirements checked beforehand. Emptying a pool can create risks in some ground conditions, so leave the method and timing to an appropriate professional. Clarify who handles the refill and prepares the water for use.
- Identify storage space, waste collection arrangements and protection for access routes.
- List coping and surround repairs separately from the underwater tiling.
- Confirm whether draining, refilling and water treatment are included or excluded.
Plan in autumn or winter and compare the same scope
Autumn and winter are usually the best seasons to plan pool tiling in Valencia, leaving time for repairs before summer swimming. Cooler months are not automatically suitable every day: rain, surface temperatures and the chosen products’ requirements still matter. Allow for inspection, ordering, preparation, curing and refilling rather than setting a deadline based only on the days spent laying tiles.
For an accurate written quote, provide the location, dimensions, photographs, tile preferences and known problems. Ask for a site assessment and an itemised scope covering removal, disposal, base repairs, waterproofing, tiling and finishing. Compare exclusions and provisional work as carefully as the total. A clear quote should say how unforeseen defects will be documented, priced and approved, with IVA treatment and payment stages explained before you accept.
